Additionally, some pregnancies require extra monitoring and attention, which is also known as high-risk pregnancy care. This type of care begins during the prenatal period and continues throughout birth and even after baby arrives. At HCA Florida Northwest Hospital, our team of board-certified obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYNs) is here to provide comprehensive prenatal care services. They work alongside skilled nurses in our Women's Hospital to provide a complete continuum of care.

Our maternity program
The practitioners in our hospital's maternity unit support you throughout your pregnancy experience — from preparing for childbirth to taking your baby home.
As part of that program, our prenatal care services are designed to help you stay healthy and feel confident and secure as you approach your due date.
We pride ourselves on learning every mother's complete medical history and working closely with her obstetrician, midwife or doula during their birthing journey.
When the big day comes, we offer comprehensive labor and delivery services and comfortable amenities, ensuring a safe and special childbirth experience for you and your new baby.
High-risk pregnancy care
Whether you are carrying multiple babies, have conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF) or have been identified as having other high-risk needs, our maternal-fetal medicine specialists can help. We understand every pregnancy is unique and requires individualized care, so we tailor our support to your needs.
Additionally, if you need to be admitted to the hospital during pregnancy, you'll have access 24/7 to an in-house OB/GYN.
Neonatal intensive care
Our hospital is home to the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in northern Broward County — staffed 24 hours a day with neonatologists and specially trained neonatal nurses. Here, we care for newborn babies who require additional support or monitoring after birth.
Whether your baby is carried to term or arrives early, they will receive compassionate, specialized care before, during and after delivery.
Prenatal and childbirth classes and family education
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, classes may be offered in virtual formats, and availability may vary. For the most up to date information, you can talk to your nurse about our classes, such as baby care 101, lactation support, bathing and diapering. We also encourage you to ask about our support groups.
Parents have many options for birthing education at our hospital. Our team is always eager to address your health concerns and expectations, such as pain management during labor, breastfeeding, fetal heart rate monitoring, circumcision for infant boys and newborn testing.

Preregistration for labor and delivery
We want to make preparing for your maternity stay at our hospital as stress-free and straightforward as possible. To save time at the hospital, you may preregister online.
Please preregister online at least 48 hours before your visit to the hospital to allow adequate time for processing your information.
What to do when you are in labor
When you think you are in labor or your water breaks, call your physician immediately. They will notify us to prepare for your arrival.
Our labor and delivery unit is on the third floor.
Upon your arrival, our staff will greet you and escort you to one of our rooms. There, your labor status will be assessed, and we will help you begin the process of welcoming your baby to the world.
What to pack to bring to the birth center
Because babies have a timetable of their own, we suggest you have an overnight bag packed and ready to go in advance of your due date. Items you may want to bring include:
- A comfortable robe and slippers
- An approved infant car seat
- Comfortable "going home" outfits for you and your baby
- Important phone numbers and information, such as your Social Security number
- Nightgowns, underwear and nursing bras
- Personal items, such as a favorite pillow
- Toiletries and cosmetics
