The hospitals we partner with for labor and delivery provide educational opportunities to help you prepare for your hospital visit and your new baby. These opportunities include maternity classes and hospital tours.

Class options range from breastfeeding education to childbirth preparation, and classes are open to you and a support partner. Additionally, the hospital tours provide you with a peek of the labor, delivery and recovery rooms as well as the well-baby nursery.

Having a bag prepared ahead of your due date can help omit stress when it's time to go to the hospital for delivery.

Some of the items you may want to bring include:

• "Going home" clothes for you and your baby
• Bed pillows
• Camera
• Cards, books, tablets and other items to pass the time
• Change of clothes for support person
• Chargers for phones, camera and other electronic items
• Handheld massager
• Important phone numbers and information, such as your Social Security number
• Lip balm
• Music
• Socks, pajamas, robe and slippers
• Toiletries and cosmetics for you and your support person

You will also need to have an approved and properly installed infant car seat for discharge, as required by the state of Florida.

The hospitals in our network are equipped with all the resources and technologies your provider and labor and delivery team need to support you, whether you have experienced a routine or high-risk pregnancy. Within these hospitals, you will find a variety of childbirth services and amenities, including:

• Breastfeeding support
• Highly trained labor and delivery nurses and maternity care teams
• Medicated and non-medicated pain relief options, including 24/7 anesthesiology coverage
• Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) where we care for ill and/or premature newborn babies
• Spacious, private rooms with sleeping accommodations for a support partner
• Variety of delivery options to fit your preferences

After you give birth, your provider and labor and delivery team continue to support you and your baby. They check you and your baby's health and help you begin your recovery, as well as breastfeeding, if you wish.

Throughout your postpartum care at the hospital, your provider and your baby's pediatrician will check in on you. They communicate regularly with your postpartum care nurses to stay current on the health of you and your baby.

During this portion of your hospital stay, we encourage you to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge the hospital maternity care teams have. The hospital nurses and lactation consultants are available and happy to answer any questions you have about your care, breastfeeding or newborn care.

HCA Florida Physicians provides access to maternity specialists to ensure you and your baby receive the care that is right for you. Our OB/GYNs, midwives and high-risk pregnancy doctors (high-risk OB/GYNs) are highly trained to care for pregnant women, deliver babies and care for women during the postpartum period.

If you chose midwifery services or to work with an OB/GYN and unexpected circ*mstances arise during pregnancy, our high-risk OB/GYNs can help. They will partner with you and your provider for the rest of your pregnancy and through your labor and delivery.

Our providers are supported by highly trained labor and delivery teams—including nurses and anesthesiologists—at the hospital. Your doctor or midwife collaborates with this team to provide personalized, compassionate care and support throughout your childbirth experience and hospital stay.
