Mercedes Mone is not only one of the most popular women’s wrestlers of the last decade, but she is also one of the most talented. Whether it be in WWE as Sasha Banks, NJPW as Mercedes Mone, or even in the acting world as Mercedes Varnado, she has been a success in everything she has done.

10 Harsh Realities Fans Of The Judgment Day Need To Realize
Despite their popularity, The Judgment Day is far from perfect, and there are some harsh realities that WWE fans need to accept.
When it comes to her professional wrestling career though, not everything has always been perfect and in some cases things have even been downright bad. Even her most avid fans must realize some harsh realities, whether that be down to the fault of Mone or the companies she has worked for.
10 WWE Chose Charlotte Flair
Charlotte Flair Was WWE’s Chosen Face Of The Division
Wrestler | NXT Title Wins | Main Roster World Title Wins | Tag Team Title Wins |
---|---|---|---|
Mercedes Mone | 1 | 6 | 3 |
Charlotte Flair | 2 | 14 | 1 |
No matter the talents that Mercedes Mone showed off throughout her career both in developmental and on RAW/SmackDown, WWE were never as high on her as they were on other stars.
Mone should have been the face of WWE’s women’s division, but the harsh reality is that WWE chose Charlotte Flair for that spot instead, and it came at the detriment of Mone who fell behind in terms of star power, title wins, and spotlight.
9 Better In NXT Than Main Roster
The Boss Was Better In Developmental
- WWE dropped the ball on Sasha Banks as a heel
- She showcased much more charisma in NXT
“The Boss” gimmick in NXT turned Mercedes Mone into a star. She was super over with fans, she was a natural in her role, and she oozed charisma. In terms of her character work, this was the peak of her WWE career.
WWE never really brought back this exact character on the main roster, which was a mistake, and she mostly played a babyface too - a role which she did well in, but it was never something which reached insane heights. Mone was, in truth, better in NXT, like so many over the years.
8 Never A Good Women’s Champion
Mone Has Several Short Title Reigns
- Mone’s first four title reigns had no successful defenses
- WWE never committed on a dominant title run
Mercedes Mone had several title reigns in WWE, but it is hard to remember a reign that was actually good. Her first four women’s title reigns were underwhelming, losing the title almost immediately after winning them.
Even her longer reigns weren’t memorable. Sure, she had some good matches here and there, but she will never be remembered in the same breath as champions such as Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, and Charlotte Flair in terms of being a champion, which is a harsh reality her fans need to realize.
7 Awful Main Roster Storyline With Bayley
WWE Botched A Potential Great Rivalry
- In NXT, Mone and Bayley had a tremendous rivalry
- The first chapter of their main roster feud was a mess
In 2018, the issues between Mone and Bayley as friends were growing, with more hints towards Mone eventually turning on Bayley. It was the expected direction, but in the end it was more of a mutual breakup with the pair brawling.

Whether it be bad booking or overrated moments, there are several harsh realities fans of The Usos need to accept.
Instead of this leading to a feud, they went to counseling with comedy character Doctor Shelby, who helped the pair rekindle in some absolutely abysmal segments. They made up and became a tag team once again in a terrible angle.
6 Team B.A.D Was Actually Bad
Mone Debuted With Team B.A.D
- WWE didn’t put enough focus on Mone after he debut
- The group is overrated and wasn’t very good
WWE and some fans do like to look back at acts like Team B.A.D with some fondness, but in reality, Team B.A.D were not good at all. They were the least important trio when the “Women’s Revolution” began on the main roster, losing lots of matches and not getting much of a chance to showcase any character or charisma.
The act was fairly short-lived too, not achieving much or reaching their potential. Even with talented individuals like Naomi and Mone in the group, this was not a good time for Mone in WWE by any means.
5 Didn’t Really Help The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles
Mone Was A Multi-Time Women’s Tag Champ
- Fans claim Mone and Bayley helped the titles, but that wasn’t the case
- The women’s tag team division in WWE was never at a high
When looking at the Women’s Tag Team Titles in WWE, fans point towards Mone and Bayley as the best champions and a time when the division was at a high. Fans must realize a harsh reality though that this isn’t true.
They have been the first champions, but the division wasn’t really established and they dropped the belts before anything substantial happened. Their second reign was only highly received because at the time Bayley and Banks were at the top of the RAW and SmackDown women’s division. The titles didn’t actually matter too much. Teams such as the Kabuki Warriors and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross were better champions.
4 Feud With Bayley Never Reached Its Full Potential
Bayley Vs. Mone Should’ve Main Evented WrestleMania
- At numerous times, WWE messed up this rivalry
- It will always be one of WWE’s biggest missed opportunities
As noted, WWE botched the first chapter of Bayley vs. Mone on the main roster, but the second chapter of their feud wasn’t great either. It was Bayley who was the heel when they feuded in 2020, in a dynamic which didn’t quite work.
Their Hell in a Cell match was good, but it must be said that it should have been a generational feud, and if built right like their NXT TakeOver clashes, it could’ve been a WrestleMania main event. There may have been some positives, but it never reached its potential.
3 Arguably Unprofessional Upon WWE Exit
Mone Walked Out Of WWE
- Mone should’ve handled her WWE exit better
- WWE was forced into changing plans
Even though Mercedes Mone and Naomi were arguably correct in their judgment that WWE creative was booking them badly and screwing up their Women’s Tag Team Title run, the way they went about walking out of WWE could be seen as unprofessional.
On the night of a scheduled match, they dumped their belts and left without any sort of warning. WWE had to rush to change plans, and whilst they were still the ones booking the show badly, Mone and Naomi could’ve perhaps handled it in a better way.
2 Wouldn’t Be Better Off In AEW
Mone Has Been Linked With AEW
- The women’s division in AEW is a mess
- Mone would be better in any other women’s division than in AEW
Many fans are wanting to see Mercedes Mone in AEW. She appeared at AEW All In as an audience member, and Fightful Select reported that the two sides are open to working together. However, fans must realize that this would not be the best destination for her.

10 Harsh Realities Fans Of Stephanie McMahon Need To Realize
A few observations have been made about Stephanie McMahon’s WWE run and the harsh realities about her career.
Women’s divisions in IMPACT, NJPW, and WWE are given more time, better storylines, and are presented far superior to AEW. Mone coming in might lead to AEW changing tact, but betting on this would be a risk, especially since there has been no change for years now.
1 Underused At Major WWE Events
Mone Should’ve Headlined More WWE Shows
- Aside from WrestleMania 37, Mone was never a priority for WWE
- Mone missed out on many big PPV matches
When looking over Mercedes Mone’s WWE career, fans of hers should realize that overall her time was underwhelming, especially when it came to big shows. She only ever had one singles match at WrestleMania, with other shows seeing her in multi-woman matches, thrown in Tag Team Title matches, or even on the pre-show!
She might’ve had some more focus at other events, but she only ever main evented one of WWE’s big four as a featured talent (Royal Rumble matches not counting).
